Training for people involved in education restructuring

The paper makes an analyis of contemporary British education in library and information science. After a general view, the author takes a closer look at the Northumbria School of Information Studies at Newcastle. This is a good example of a contemporary school perfectly adapted to the learning need of information science specialists in Europe.
 
The author takes a look at the problems discussed at the training session which took place between 23rd of January and 6th of February at the Northumbria University. She talks about the curriculum, lifelong learning and other different aspects regarding county libraries.

Considering that the Anglo-American librarianship is the best in the world, the author analyses information and library management in United Kingdom. In the medium of information and communication, librarians, publishers and all those working in information industry are now getting more and more attention. These jobs have now the opportunity to prove their value to the community.
 
Open and distance learning in United Kingdom is a main component of the education system and it is used by 30% of the British students. In this study the author takes a closer look at all the details of open and distance learning and its implications over the development of British educational system. Open and distance learning programs of Northumbria School of Information Studies are analysed here.

Dublin Core is a set of elements used to describe the content of electronic resources. This article presents its evolution from one version to another and the main features of Dublin Core.
 
Activities and services for the community at the Gateshead Public Library are analysed here from an user perspective. It's mainly about information services by cable (TyneCable), the service for people with eyes problems and blind people (AIRS) and videoconferencing via Internet for people with hearing problems.

This paper is about challenges which the librarian has to face nowadays and the need of the profession to redefine itself in the new informational context. Naturally, the education in librarianship has to consider this need and it has to propose programs open to the changes in this profession. 
More than ever, today people feel the need of guidance in seeking and retrieving information. Dublin Core, Nordic Metadata, Metaweb and other projects alike conducted to the creation of databases which allows a better systematization of information, being the first step on the way of a virtual library of information resources.
